Veterinary Medical Technology Program
A Bachelor’s Degree Program

Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU-CVM) is the third college of veterinary medicine in the United States to offer a four-year Bachelor’s degree program in veterinary medical technology.  Nationwide there are less than 20 four-year veterinary technology programs.

The MSU-CVM Veterinary Medical Technology Program will graduate students who will fill positions associated with food animal, equine, and small animal practices; public health organizations; federal and state regulatory agencies; animal related industries; laboratory animal medicine; animal and biomedical research; zoo and wildlife practices; and shelter practices. 

The mission of the VMT is to provide the environment and resources for veterinary technology students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that will prepare students for a para professional career as a veterinary technologist and to instill the desire for lifelong learning to enhance their careers.

Program Goals:

The VMT goals are to provide students with a:

  • relative, practical, and quality delivered curriculum
  • hands on educational experience to develop technical skills expected by entry level technologists
  • collaborative learning environment to enhance understanding of team members responsibilities and dynamics within the veterinary health care team
  • establishment of a foundational knowledge base for lifelong learning
  • technical knowledge that parallels the educational standards of Committee on Veterinary Technology Education &Activities (CVTEA)
  • degree that can be used to satisfy the AAVSB requirements for national credentialing as a veterinary technician
