Small Animal Primary Care

Faculty and Staff Listing

The Small Animal Primary Care service of Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine offers an innovative edge to today’s veterinary community.  Approximately 85% of graduating veterinary students choose to work in the private sector.  Our goal is to provide Junior and Senior students private practice experience while they are still present in the university setting.   The Primary Care team desires to equip students with the skills and habits required to excel within a high quality small animal private practice.  The Primary Care portion of the MSU teaching hospital is unique in that it relies upon developing and maintaining its own client base in exactly the same way a veterinary practice owner has to.  The Primary Care service also possesses the added benefit of convenient, in-house ability to refer to world-class specialists that perform referral level, tertiary service (including Small Animal Internal Medicine, Small Animal Surgery, Small Animal ICU, and Oncology service).  The Primary Care program is a benefit to the veterinary student, the practitioners with whom they will be employed, and the public they will serve.  We feature a variety of subject areas that establish a strong foundation for the future veterinarian.  These areas provide strong training in Routine Health Maintenance, Dentistry, Dermatology, Behavioral medicine, and Shelter medicine.
