The Small Animal Surgery Service at the MSU-CVM provides referral services in soft tissue, orthopedic and oncologic surgery. We take referrals from primary-care veterinarians and work closely with that veterinarian and the owner to provide the best possible care for complex surgical conditions. In addition, we provide emergency surgical services and offer telephone consultation with primary-care veterinarians.
While in the care of the Small Animal Surgery Service, all medical decisions and procedures are under the direct guidance of an ACVS board-certified surgeon. All of our board-certified surgeons have completed a minimum of a one-year internship, followed by a three-year residency program that meets guidelines established by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). In addition to completing their residency requirements, these individuals have passed a rigorous certification examination to become an ACVS Diplomate.
During your visit, you will work with a team including one of our attending surgeons, a surgical resident, an intern, a veterinary student, as well as various technicians. This team approach allows us to provide excellent care for your pet, in addition to providing clinical teaching to the involved students, interns and residents.
We offer state-of-the-art facilities with digital radiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging to aid in diagnosis of your pet’s condition. We also offer advanced surgical treatments for your pet, including repair of complicated fractures, minimally invasive surgery (arthroscopy and laparoscopy) and oncologic surgery.
