Equine Medicine & Surgery

The Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Equine Medicine and Surgery service provides advanced care to horses in the region.  All patients are managed by a team consisting of a senior faculty member, a resident, an intern, advanced level veterinary students, and certified veterinary technicians.  Working closely with referring veterinarians, we provide specialty diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services. Utilizing experienced staff and climate controlled, state-of-the art facilities, we offer 24-hour, 7 days a week intensive care for critically ill horses.  Our emergency service operates 365 days a year, so we are there when you and your horse need us the most.  Students, interns, staff, and faculty are always available to meet the needs of sick or injured patients.

We provide special procedures such as diagnostic imaging, endoscopic procedures, and orthopedic surgeries.  This is just to name a few.  We also specialize in sports and preventative medicine.  Please call us at 662-325-1351 to schedule an appointment or to learn more about what we can provide your horses.

In addition to specialty services, we also provide routine veterinary care to local clients.  This allows us to serve our region and to teach students the principles of equine health maintenance, such as nutritional counseling, disease surveillance, parasite control, dentistry, and vaccination programs.
