Primary Area of Expertise
Dr. Bailey's research has focused on skeletal muscle fiber types, their metabolic and histochemical characteristics and their recruitment by the nervous system in posture and locomotion related to biomechanical variables. He is also interested in how these muscle cells compare metabolically and biochemically with cardiac and smooth muscle and the motility characteristics they may share with other cell types. Another interest is at the systems leve with comparative neuroanatomy related to the neural control of locomotion.
Dr. Bailey is a member of the American Physiological Society, the American Association of Anatomists, the American Society for Cell Biology, the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (formerly the American Society of Zoologists) and the American Heart Association's Councils on Basic Cardiovascular Sciences and Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Metabolism.
