Special Interests
Clinical Interests
Ultrasonographic imaging, neonatology, lameness in the western performance horse, and immunology (particularly hypersensitivity disorders).
Research Interests
Molecular pathogenesis of disease, particularly the molecular regulation of these processes by the immune system. Our investigations strive to match clinically relevant equine questions with cutting edge research techniques including genomics and proteomics, to facilitate a more global approach to clinical problems. Such work is only possible through our collaborations with other investigators including the Pasquli laboratory at the University of Utah, the Costa-Bauer laboratory at the Tufts-Cummings College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Burgess System’s Biology laboratory here at MSU-CVM. Our current research efforts are focused upon deciphering the role of hypersensitivity in horses with Summer Pasture Associated Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. We are also investigating the modulation of aberrant collagen metabolism using horses with Hereditary Equine Regional Dermal Asthenia as a model of human disease.
