Flow Cytometry Core Facility Policies and Fees
Normal Hours of Operation: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday
In order to provide the most efficient service please schedule appointments at least 72 hours in advance. Exceptions can be made on occasion when scheduling permits. Qualified operators of the instruments need only provide 24 hours notice. Please note that use of instrumentation is on a first to schedule first to use basis so it is best for everyone to schedule as far in advance as possible in order to get the time slot you need for your experiment. The 24 hours notice will be waived for clinical samples as long as an instrument is available.
The facility does not normally operate before 8:00 am and after 5:00 pm, and on weekends or university holidays. However, with 2 weeks notice, exceptions can be made on occasion. Flow cytometry should not normally be routinely scheduled during these times. Qualified operators of the instruments have 24/7 access to the instruments and only need to schedule the instrument for after hours use.
Users risk losing their time slot if they are more than 30 minutes late for their appointment unless they provide notice of likely delay 24 hours prior and the schedule allows for delay. Usage of the instruments is sometimes heavy and it is not fair to make subsequent users wait to conduct their experiments.
Tubes that fit the instruments are (without cap) 12 x 75 mm plastic Falcon (352052), and, (with cap) 12 x 75 mm plastic Falcon (352054). These are supplied by the investigator and not the Flow Cytometry Core Facility. The investigator also supplies all other necessary reagents.
Any investigator wishing to run unfixed BSL-2 samples needs to discuss the specifics with John Stokes before proceeding with the experiment.
- FACSCalibur: There is currently no charge for use of the FACSCalibur for MSU users.
- FACSAria III: The current charge for using the FACSAria III is $75.00 per hour for all MSU users.
Training is currently available for the FACSCalibur for investigators who, after consultation with John Stokes, anticipate their usage will be heavy enough to justify the investment in time for training. Training for the FACSAria III is not available.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL training for new users is conducted by John Stokes. "Second-hand" training is not permitted.
