We are a parasitology lab with a research focus in tick-borne diseases. Our primary area of interest is the Amblyomma maculatum-rickettsia system. The known human pathogen in this system is the spotted fever group rickettsia, Rickettsia parkeri. Its primary vector, A. maculatum, is also known as the Gulf Coast tick. Other areas of interest include the tick-Borrelia system, and a collaborative project on Toxoplasma gondii.
