The system is composed of four laboratories that are administratively housed within the Department of Pathobiology & Population Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University. Through the network of these four laboratories essential services in microbiology, pathology, clinical pathology, molecular diagnostics, serology, toxicology, and virology are provided. All 82 counties in the state are served by the laboratory system. Over 70,000 case accessions requesting diagnostic services are received on an annual basis.
