The following scholarships are available only for current DVM students (as noted) at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Applications are made available to all DVM students in late January*.
*Salsbury senior scholarships have rotating deadlines throughout the academic year.
The Allan H. Hart/IDEXX Scholarship. An applicant must: be a current junior student at the MSU-CVM; and have a strong understanding of clinical pathology and its practical application to clinical cases.
The American Kennel Club Scholarships. Each College of Veterinary Medicine in the U.S. can submit up to four (4) candidate applications (incoming students through seniors). Criteria for awarding scholarships can include: financial need; academic achievement and potential; and perceived or demonstrated interests in canine biology and/or purebred dogs.
The Arkansas Veterinary Medical Foundation Scholarship. An applicant must: be an Arkansas high school graduate; be a current freshman, sophomore, or junior student at the MSU-CVM; and have an overall 2.5 or better (based on 4.0 scale).
The Charles E. and Viola G. Bardsley Scholarship. One scholarship is awarded to the graduating senior veterinary student with the highest overall GPA for four years of the professional program. Leadership, professionalism and strength of senior year of study may be taken into consideration.
The Bedenbaugh Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine. An applicant must: be a student in good standing at the MSU-CVM; or be an accepted incoming student to the MSU-CVM; and have a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00 in his/her current program; and have exhibited leadership skills during his/her tenure as veterinary medical (or pre-vet, where applicable) students. Financial need may be used as a selection criterion.
The James D. & Kay B. Bryan Scholarship. An applicant must: have declared a career interest in food animal medicine; have met and maintained above-average scholarly requirements set forth by the MSU-CVM; be a current freshman, sophomore, or junior student or a senior student enrolled in the Production Medicine Master’s program (PMM program students given preference); and be of good moral character and have demonstrated leadership ability and financial need. As many as five scholarships may be awarded each year.
The Morgan Freeman Endowment for Veterinary Medicine. The Admissions Committee of the College of Veterinary Medicine will identify, if available among those students invited to the class, one (1) minority student and up to five (5) alternate minority students to be awarded the Morgan Freeman Endowment in Veterinary Medicine for the four years of his/her veterinary medical education at Mississippi State University. The selected student will be granted this scholarship upon receipt of his/her offer to the college and will hold the scholarship through the senior year of study for his/her DVM degree (or a maximum of four years), provided the student remains in good standing with the College.
The Greenville Kennel Club Scholarship. An applicant must: be a resident of the Arkansas/Mississippi Delta; have met and maintained above-average scholarly requirements set forth by the MSU-CVM; be of good moral character and have demonstrated leadership ability and financial need. First priority is given to current freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior students. Second priority is given to entering freshmen.
The Clarice C. Jackson Memorial Scholarship. An applicant must: be a freshman, sophomore, or junior student at the MSU-CVM; and be of good moral character.
The Dr. Betsy Lipscomb Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine. An applicant must: be in the junior year of study at the MSU-CVM; have demonstrated interest in small animal medicine; and have met and maintained above-average scholarly requirements set forth by the MSU-CVM. The Dr. Betsy Lipscomb Scholarship is awarded annually. As fund distribution permits, more than one scholarship may be awarded.
The Mississippi State Kennel Club Scholarship. An applicant must be enrolled in the MSU-CVM, and be in the freshman year of study. Priority is given to residents of Hinds, Madison, and Rankin counties of Mississippi.
The A. Wayne Groce Alumni Scholarship. An applicant must: be a student in good standing at MSU-CVM; be of good moral character and have demonstrated leadership ability; and have demonstrated financial need.
MSU College of Veterinary Medicine Minority Assistance Scholarship. An applicant must: be an incoming freshman or current freshman, sophomore, or junior student enrolled at MSU-CVM; be an African American resident of Mississippi; and have a 2.50/4.00 grade point average and meet or exceed all established standards for entering the academic year for which the student is applying.
The Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association Hall of Fame Scholarship. An applicant must: have completed the fall semester of his/her sophomore year (current junior); have five years of residence in Mississippi; and be of good moral character, have demonstrated leadership ability, and financial need.
The Thomas C. Randolph, Jr. Memorial Scholarship. An applicant must: be an upcoming senior (current junior) student at the MSU-CVM; and have demonstrated a career interest in food animal medicine during his/her first three years.
The Salsbury Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded on a funds-availability basis to senior students of the MSU-CVM to assist in completion of their fourth year of studies.
The Greta Somerville Endowed Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine. An applicant must: be a student in good standing at the MSU-CVM; and have demonstrated leadership ability and financial need. The Greta Somerville Scholarship is awarded annually. As fund distribution permits, more than one scholarship may be awarded. During the selection process, consideration is to be given to need and academic merit.
The Hugh M. and Kathryn Arant, Sr. Memorial Scholarship in Veterinary Medicine. An applicant must: be a member in good standing of the sophomore class of the MSU-CVM; have demonstrated exceptional overall academic performance, and made significant contributions to his/her class as well as to the MSU-CVM; and be of good moral character and have demonstrated leadership ability and financial need.
The Nestle Purina Scholarship. An applicant must: be a current sophomore or junior student at the MSU-CVM; have met and maintained above-average scholarly requirements set forth by the MSU-CVM; have demonstrated leadership ability; be involved in extracurricular activities; and have demonstrated financial need.
The Schering Plough Animal Health Scholarship. An applicant must: be a current freshman, sophomore or junior student at MSU-CVM; have demonstrated academic achievement by realizing at least a 3.00 GPA; be of good moral character and have demonstrated leadership ability; be involved in student professional organizations; and have demonstrated financial need.
The Veterinary Christian Mission Endowed Fund. An applicant must: be a current freshman, sophomore, junior or senior student at MSU-CVM; be of good moral character and have demonstrated leadership ability and financial need; and should be interested in veterinary Christian mission work in underdeveloped countries.
The Tupelo Small Animal Hospital Scholarship. An applicant must: be a current freshman, sophomore, junior or senior student at MSU-CVM; have demonstrated acceptable academic achievement and have shown promise for an outstanding career in veterinary medicine; preference is given to qualified students who are resident of Lee county, Mississippi.
Dr. Clyde E. Taylor Endowed Scholarship. An applicant must: be post-DVM graduate veterinarians, and first preference should be given to a practitioner that has sold his/her practice with an advance degree as his/her goal. Preference should also be given to students with a livestock and food animal medicine interest.
The Dempsy & Ruby Lazar Endowed Scholarship. An applicant must: be in the junior year or senior year of study; have demonstrated interest in small animal medicine; have demonstrated interest in small animal medicine; have demonstrated proficiency not only with the clinical needs of animals in his/her care, but also outstanding compassion for and personal relations skills with clients; and have met and maintained above-average scholarly requirements set forth by the MSU-CVM.
Invisible Fence Brand Scholarship. An applicant must: be a current student in good standing; be a legal resident of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee or Kentucky; have a declared interest in small animal medicine; and have demonstrated financial need.
The James C. and Linda B. Johnson Scholarship. An applicant must: be enrolled as a student in good standing at the MSU-CVM; have demonstrated good moral character and be a person of integrity and honesty; be generally perceived as having a caring and compassionate attitude toward animals and individuals; and have demonstrated acceptable academic achievement and promise for an outstanding vet med career. Financial need may be considered over other qualified applicants with higher GPAs.
The Jean and Walter W. Rotchild Endowed Scholarship. An applicant must: be enrolled as a student in good standing at the MSU-CVM; have met and maintained above-average scholarly requirements set forth by the MSU-CVM; and have demonstrated interest in small animal medicine.
The Karen J. and John G. McCord Scholarship. An applicant must: be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior student enrolled in the MSU-CVM; have a demonstrated interest in equine medicine; OR be a second-career student; and be a student who has demonstrated acceptable academic achievement and have shown promise for an outstanding career in veterinary medicine.
Merial Limited Scholarship. An applicant must: be a junior student enrolled in the MSU-CVM. Selection is based on an essay prepared by the applicant.
The Paul Bass Annual Scholarship. An applicant must: be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior enrolled in the MSU-CVM; have demonstrated a special interest in small animal medicine; be a student who has demonstrated acceptable academic achievement with a minimum 3.5 GPA based on a 4.0 system. (The applicant with the highest GPA should be considered over other applicants.); be a student who has demonstrated financial need. (Preference will be given to a student with the greatest financial need.); and be a student who has demonstrated leadership and/or volunteerism in academic and/or civic organizations or programs.
Pfizer Animal Health Scholarship. An applicant must: be a current junior student at MSU-CVM; have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and productivity; and have demonstrated financial need.
Simmons & Associates Scholarship. An applicant must: be a junior student in good standing at the MSU-CVM; be a member of the MSU-CVM VBMA (Veterinary Business Management Association); have a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00 in his/her current program; and have shown potential for leadership in business, either through programs of study while in veterinary school or through personal business experience. Financial need may be used as a selection criterion.
